On this day ten years ago my life changed forever! A sweet southern boy asked me to be his girlfriend... yes, we were still young enough for him to "ask me out"... I was 19 and he was 21. We were young, stupid, and so in "like" with one another. To honor Jeffrey and I's ten year dating anniversary I am going to share our love story. buckle your seat belts, it's a good one (my favorite one actually!).
Ten years ago I was ending my freshman year in college. I was 19 and dating someone else at the time. I had come home from college to write a paper. While I was deep into my research, my mom suggested I take a break from working and join her at Betty's (Jeffrey's mom) 50th Birthday party. My mom and Betty have worked together for years and knew one another before Jeffrey or I were born. Although our moms were good friends, Jeffrey and I never really knew one another. After a lot of persuasion, I decided it would be nice to see everyone and relax so I jumped in the car.
I will remember this next moment for the rest of my life. This next moment is what everyone tells you about, it's that "you just know" feeling. It's what all those Nicholas Sparks books talk about. In this next moment, my world would be rocked. I walked into Betty's kitchen and there he was. I looked up, he looked up and our eyes met. BAM, there it was. I can't explain it, but I was paralyzed. I couldn't speak or move, my mind went totally blank. Finally, my mom broke the tension and we both blushed and turned away shy and awe-struck. It wasn't until years later that my mom shared with me that she knew at that very moment that Jeffrey was "the one" for me. To this day, I still remember how I felt when I first saw Jeffrey and I pray I will never forget it.
The rest of the night is one for the history books. We were inseparable. We laughed about Teddy Ruxpin, danced to cheesey music, and took a walk where we held hands and talked like we had been best friends for years. I had just met this boy, yet we could talk so easily and I could be my crazy self around him. Time seemed to have stopped. By the time we walked back to the party it was 2:00 am and our parents were not as thrilled as we were. We quickly exchanged numbers and said goodbye.
I could not get my mind off that tall, curly headed, tan boy from Georgia Tech. I am not a romantic and I really kind of hate love stories, but Jeffrey had melted my heart and I was hooked. Remember that guy I was dating? I forgot about him too. Well, I broke up with him quickly and began to talk with Jeffrey every chance I could. We would AIM for hours. We began talking every day and I would look forward to our nightly chats. We just fit together so well. He made me a better person and he claims I did the same for him.
After a few weeks, we finally went on our first date. Since I lived two hours away dating was not easy. I eventually made my way up to Atlanta where he took me to Piedmont Park for the Aquarium and a picnic. We had a blast looking at all the fish. Life with him beside me just seemed right. After we made our way through each fish tank, we grabbed our picnic lunches. As we were eating, a woman walked by and stopped right in front of us. She smiled from ear to ear and proclaimed that we were the cutest couple she had ever seen and that she wanted us to get married because we looked so great together. My eyes must have been huge at hearing this. I was beat red and so embarrassed. We were on our first date!! We weren't even "official" yet. Jeff as always, calm, cool, and collected gave me his reassuring grin. She must have seen something in us because we began seeing each other more and more.
After a month of dating, Jeffrey finally asked me to be his girlfriend. On this exact day, May 5 (Cinco de Mayo), ten years ago Jeffrey took me to the top of his M.E.T. building on Tech campus over looking Atlanta and asked me to officially be his "girlfriend". The rest is history. He is my love story, the only boy to make me romantic, and the man that still gives me butterflies ten years later. So the moral of this story is, take chances! Always go to the party, you never know who you might meet while you're there!
What is your love story?
One time a homeless man told Andy and I that we were the most beautiful couple he had ever seen. Then he asked for 77 cents.
ReplyDeleteObviously I gave him the 77 cents. #lovestories
